The girl's race had already dwindled down to three a half-mile in.
Nadhia Campos, Zaila Smith, and Elle Stevens were running a hot early pace. The trio had already separated themselves from the pack, which was thin in chase.
But with each stride the pre-race favorite did what she's done all season long: win.
By the time Campos hit the mile she had already shed her chasers. The Vanguard School freshman soloed her way around the course, and ran on to a dominating victory.
Campos had the Norris-Penrose Stadium entirely to herself as she claimed the 2A state title in 18:47 - over a half-minute win.
Smith took the runner-up finish in 19:20, while Stevens took third in 19:55. Quin Gregg took fourth in 20:04, which was just ahead of Eliana Caucutt's 20:05.
While Campos ran to script, the team-race was anything but.
Colorado Springs Christian had the lean early, with Isabel Case finishing ninth in addition to Stevens inside the top-10.
Lake County didn't have one runner inside the top-10, but they proved that a strong pack can win the day.
Keira King and Adele Horning finished 11-12, while Ella Bullock and Violet Hill finished 17-18 to stop their tally before anyone else could get their third runner across.
Lake County claimed the 2A state title with a tally of 48 points. CSC was second with 69 points, which was just ahead of Lyons, who tallied 77.
