Bust The Ice And Rust At The Peak Pre-Season Outdoor Meets

Indoor track and field is well underway, but there's an option to let that stride open up a bit more!

How about an outdoor (Polar Bear) meet?

The Peak Pre-Season Outdoor Meet #1 is on tap for Saturday, February 5 at Heritage High School. The meet is primarily a mid-distance/distance affair, offering the 800/400/1600/4x400 for the first of the two-part series.

"It's basically a fun pre-season meet with the goal of getting a feel for the oval," meet director Andrew Simmons explained. "We're trying to bring more pre-season opportunities to high school runners."

To help mix it up a bit, part two of the series is set for three weeks later - February 26 - and will offer a 4x800/3200/800/400/and 1600 races.

While hosting an outdoor meet during the winter months (also known as "Polar Bear") can create additional challenges, like the cold weather and snow in particular, the added elements were part of the appeal.

"We wanted to take it a step further by putting it outside to be a true ice and rust-buster," Simmons said.
