Colorado 1A State Recap: Heritage Christian Sweeps


Sanford went 1-2 in the sprints, with Gauge Lewis and Kelton Gartrell running 11.58, and 11.60 in the 100. The two reversed roles in the 200, with Gartrell taking the state title in 23.38, and Lewis running 23.51

Meanwhile Jacob Jefferson ran away with the 400 state title, clocking 51.58 for a nearly second-and-a-half victory.

And then Heritage Christian took over...

Jack Nauman came, saw, and conquered.

The Heritage Christian junior ran away with the 1,600, clocking 4:34.14. Josh Snyder was second in 4:38.83. 

Two days earlier he successfully defended his 3,200 state title, running away over the final laps to clock a 10:19. Ryan O'Loughlin made it a Heritage Christian 1-2 with a 10:24 finish.

In the 110H Jacob Jefferson took a tight victory over Samuel Lundy, running 16.46 to Lundy's 16.63. 

Lundy doubled back several hours later for the 300H but was beaten to the line once more - this time it was Braeden Harris with the state title, clocking 40.57 to Lundy's 41.01.

In the 4x100 Sanford's sprint-power came into play, as they clocked a 44.78 for the state title. They also won the 4x200 state title in 1:32.62.

Meanwhile Cheyenne Wells dominated the 4x400, running 3:33 for a seven-second victory, while Heritage Christian ran away with the 4x800, clocking a 8:44. Cheyenne Wells was second in 8:55.

Meanwhile Charlie Clapper claimed the long jump, leaping just shy of his personal best, landing at 21-5.5. Evan Worley and Konner Rowden-Stum both leapt beyond 20-feet as well, with Worley finished second in 20-6, and Rowden-Stum in third in 20-2.

Rowden-Stum didn't leave Jeffco with gold, however - he won the triple jump with a leap of 42-0. 

Scottie Vines came to State as the favorite to claim the high jump state title, and he did just that, clearing 6-2. Westen Filter and Braden Krise both cleared 6-1.

In the pole vault Akron went 1-2, or 1-1. Ryan McCaffrey and Ivan Losa both cleared 12-9.

In the shot put John Hainer reigned supreme. The Granada junior defended his state title with a 49-3 toss. Cooper Tixer was second with a toss of 45-2.5

The discus state title belonged to Titus Glanz. The Idalia senior won the title with a 143-6 toss.

Heritage Christian dominated the team race, as they tallied 128 points. Cheraw and Sanford both tallied 69 points.
