Scottie Vines: U20 World Champion.
Yeah, that's got a nice ring to it...
The De Beque grad capped off his historic season in style - by clearing 7-4.50 to win the high jump at the World U20 Championships.
Not only was the performance good enough for gold, but it was a personal best for Vines.
"It was amazing," Vines said of the experience. "I got to represent my country."
The win highlighted a stellar summer, which saw the Arkansas-commit win the high jump at USATF U20 Championships, and the Nike Outdoor Nationals in June, and come back to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials as the only high schooler in the field.
"I'm just ecstatic about the whole situation," he said. "I'm very happy right now."
Vines won three Colorado state titles in the event, and set the Colorado state record of 7-4.25 in April.
Additionally, he was the No. 1 high jumper in the country this year by a full two-inches.
