This week's feature story is Eagle Valley High School senior Dylan Blair. After a strong spring track season that showcased his range and competitive edge, Dylan opened the fall cross country season with a major individual win at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede. With that early momentum, he is quickly establishing himself as a top contender and putting himself firmly in the conversation for a 4A individual state title.
Experience: Dylan had a standout 2024 cross country season, highlighted by a 5th place finish at the Class 4A XC state meet with a highly competitive time of 15:42.95. Earlier in the fall, he ran an impressive time 15:04.10 at the Liberty Bell Invitational, showcasing his ability to compete with the state's best.
Fast forward to the spring, and Dylan continued to get stronger and faster. He ran a 14:51.50 in
the track 5000m at Nike Outdoor Nationals and also recorded personal bests of 9:03.22 in the
full 2-mile at Nike Indoor Nationals and ran 9:11.08 in the 3200m at the 4A Track and Field State Championship, earning
a 7th-place finish in the process and posting an altitude-best time.
Dylan started off his fall 2025 cross country season with an impressive victory in 15:11 at the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, going toe to toe with 2024 XC state champion, Aiden Le Roux. He crossed the finish line first and proved to be the best on the day. (Pictured to the left, Dylan Blair winning the first meet of 2025 XC season, Picture Credit: Reneka Watkins).
Insight: Dylan also brings impressive experience as a competitive trail runner. Earlier this summer, on
June 14th, he competed at the International U18 Mountain Running Cup in Donovaly, Slovakia,
where he bested a strong international field of 64 runners and proudly took home the gold while
representing Team USA. (Pictured Below: Blair racing at the U18 Mountain Running Cup, Picture Credit: Marco Gilbert).
Dylan's strength over challenging terrain and hilly courses is one of the many reasons he is considered a true contender for the 4A state individual title. With the Norris Penrose course at Bear Creek Regional Park featuring significant hills, Blair's trail-running prowess will likely serve as a major advantage come November, giving him an edge over competitors who may not be as strong on demanding terrain.
Throughout late summer and into the season, Dylan has been running between 45 and 50 miles per week, maintaining a strong aerobic base while completing key workouts to keep himself race-ready.
Looking Ahead: The Eagle Valley senior is looking to firmly cement himself as one of the top runners in the state this year, and he has already shown impressive strength and consistency early in the season. With more races still ahead, we are excited and eager to watch his continued growth, development, and competitive edge.
Keep a close eye on Dylan Blair as the competition continues to heat up, given the incredible depth at the top in Colorado, we can expect some truly blazing fast times and, perhaps, even a few more state records to fall this season.
