This week's feature is on Emry Schwalm, representing Heritage High School in Littleton,
Colorado. Emry is having a record breaking 2025 cross country season thus far, making her case for a
run at the individual state title, with more in store.
Background:
Emry Schwalm enters her senior year as one of the most exciting distance talents in Colorado.
Coming off a breakout 2024 cross country season, Schwalm proved herself as a competitor to
watch at the highest level of 5A competition. She placed 9th at the Cross Country State Championships,
running 17:53.04 on the Norris Penrose course and capped her season with a blistering
personal best time of 17:08.60. That performance not only highlighted her potential but also
established her as a consistent threat in every race she enters.
Schwalm carried her momentum
into the spring track season, where she continued to elevate her performances. She ran
personal bests of 10:17.69 in the 3200m and 4:54.93 in the 1600m, showing her range across
distances. At the 5A Track and Field State Championships, she placed 4th in the 3200m and 9th in the 1600m,
scoring valuable points for Heritage and proving she can contend with the best when it matters
most. With each race, Schwalm demonstrated her steady progression, competitiveness, and
ability to rise to the occasion. (Pictured above: Emry Schwalm racing at the 2024 5A XC State Championship, Photo Credit: Tim McDonald).
Current Season:
As it stands now, Emry has yet to lose a race this season, establishing herself as one of the
most consistent and dominant competitors in Colorado. She has already showcased her
strength across three very different courses: opening her season with a smooth 17:07.30 at the
Cheyenne Mountain Stampede, following it up with a strong 17:14.70 at the always competitive
Cherry Creek Invitational, and then delivering her biggest statement yet at Liberty Bell. There,
Emry clocked a historic time of 16:43.20! The fastest time ever recorded by a Coloradan in the girls' race, firmly
stamping her name into the record books.
At Liberty Bell, she battled stride-for-stride with Eaton
High School's Delaney Reuter in what was one of the most exciting races of the season so far,
but the Heritage standout ultimately came out on top in the final meters, proving her ability to
perform under pressure and rise above the competition.
Looking Ahead:
With just over a month remaining in the high school season, the competition is intensifying week
by week. The battle for the top spot in 5A is wide open, and Emry has firmly positioned herself
as one of the strongest contenders for the individual crown. She will look to improve on her 9th
place finish at last year's state meet while also helping her Heritage squad make a push for the
team title, building on their 8th place finish from 2024. All eyes will be on Emry Schwalm and the
Heritage High Eagles as they chase both individual and team titles this fall. (Pictured above: Schwalm racing at the competitive Arcadia Invite in California, Photo Credit: Raymond Tran).
