Last week, one multiple state champion announced her intentions for her NLI signing. This week, another state champion--Tiffany Kenney of Colorado Springs Christian--did the same.

There aren't many track and field events Kenney hasn't tried in high school. And, pretty much everything she has tried has been met with a large measure of success. Thus, it comes as no surprise that she was recruited as a heptathlete. Last summer, she placed fourth in the USATF young women's heptathlon championship in Sacramento with a score of 4537.

Kenney has a personal best 200 meters of 26.14 and an 800 meter best of 2:24.72. Her 100 meter hurdles time is 15.30. I'm pretty sure she's cleared higher than 5-2 in the high jump, but that was the best mark I could find in the MileSplit database. Her long jump best of 18-10 is still a breathtaking mark. And she's capable in the throws as well, with a javelin mark of over 100 feet and a shot put mark of over 30 feet. It is not very difficult to understand why she attracted some serious DI interest as a multi athlete.

CSCS Coach Mike Caton remarked, "Tiffany is the kind of exceptional athlete that doesn’t come along very often. She could probably be our school’s top performer at any event from 100 meters to 2 miles. In fact, she owns the school records in the 200, 100 hurdles, long jump, high jump, 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400."

"Our biggest challenge as coaches is finding four events to focus on each year for state. She is capable of handling four individual events, but she likes to have one relay to be able to compete alongside her teammates. She is as committed to training as any athlete I know."

"She is a regular in the weight room. I have personally witnessed her alone in a field doing core exercises with a text book next to her. She would read between sets."

Note: As time permits I will continue to feature the signings of any multiple state champions such as Eleanor Fulton and Tiffany Kenney in an article such as this. I very much appreciate the heads up notice on both of these athletes.
