With the summer season just starting, a handful of Colorado kids headed over to IMG Academy in Florida to compete at the Under Armour Track and Field National meet. Colorado ended up with one champion on the boys' side and a handful of other impressive performances! Check out how they did listed below!
Owen Hays, Roosevelt High School: Hays competed in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, starting his weekend off with a time of 14.19 in preliminary round of the 110m hurdles, earning the last qualifying spot. He then went on to win the entire event, earning a national title with a time of 13.64! He also placed 7th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.99.
Ethan Rathke, Peak to Peak Charter School: Rathke hit a new personal best in the pole vault of 17-0.5 to place 2nd overall! After placing 1st at the Class 3A state meet with a vault of 15-1, this was a huge improvement for Rathke, and he is the only athlete in Colorado to vault over 17 feet so far this season!
Noah Gustafson, Fossil Ridge High School: Gustafson competed in the 110m hurdles after an impressive spring season, where he improved his time by a huge margin starting at 15.81 and finishing the spring season with a time of 14.33! He placed 16th overall in the preliminary round with a time of 14.79.
Houston Howell, Roosevelt High School: Howell was very busy at the national meet running the 100m, 200m and the 400m hurdles. In the 100m, Howell ran 10.92 in the preliminary round. He then went on to run very close to his PR in the 200m finishing in 21.59 to place 16th overall! Finally, he ran 54.49 in the 400m hurdles, finishing 10th.
Cooper Osmus, Dayspring Christian Academy: Osmus won the Class 2A state title in the 1600m and finished a close 2nd in the 3200m, running a person best in the 3200m of 9:18 and running close to his PR in the 1600m with a 4:22. However, Osmsus improved upon those marks at the national meet, running 4:14 for the full mile and placing 7th overall! He also ran 9:12 for the full two miles and finished 4th overall!
David Roberts, Roosevelt High School: Though he is only a sophomore Roberts placed well at the national meet, running strong times in the mile of 4:17, placing 11th overall and also placed 9th overall in the two mile race, finishing in 9:34!
Tayber Konrad, Roosevelt High School: Konrad joined many of his teammates competing at the national meet after a strong state meet showing. Konrad threw consistently with some of his other marks of the season in the shot put, getting out to 51-7.25 and placing 16th overall!
