Outside of the I-70 corridor, this is a land of mountains and sagebrush barrens. Sometimes, even the sagebrush gets a little sparse. Not surprisingly, therefore, roughly half of the teams in this regional preview are located along the I-70 corridor. The remainder are little islands of green in what is sometimes an ocean of isolation.
Among the few teams in northwest Colorado, however, there exists a stunning breadth of cross country tradition. Steamboat Springs was a dominant force in small school cross country in the 1980s and 90s. Moffat County has a number of state titles and is one of only two schools in the state to win two team and two individual titles in the same year.
