The 2026 Cougar Classic hosted by Coronado High schools delivered great battles. The key takeaway? The Castle View Sabercats are on fire right now.
Both the boys and girls captured overall team titles at the Coronado Cougar Classic on Saturday, Sept. 19, while Coronado's distance star, Oliver Horton, and Air Academy's, Chamorra Cooper, ran to individual victories.

Horton Takes The Boys Crown
On his home course, Coronado senior Oliver Horton delivered a convincing victory, crossing the line in a strong 15:02.7. Horton finished with a convincing win -- he was more than 23 seconds ahead of the field -- with Castle View's dynamic duo rounding out the podium.
Evan Dann finished runner-up in 15:26.0, while Wyatt Dann took third in 15:28.0.
The Sabercats scored 42 points, averaging 15:57.10 for 5K to secure their third consecutive meet victory after winning the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede and Liberty Bell Invitational earlier this fall
Host team Coronado finished runner-up with 58 points and a 16:01.71 average, while Legend rounded out the podium for third, with 68 points and a 16:16.14 average.
Cooper Claims Girls Victory
On the girls side, Air Academy senior Chamorra Cooper took early control of the race, racing to strong victory in 18:12.9. Timnath senior Izzy Schimmelpfennig finished runner-up in 18:45.6, while Coronado senior Olivia White rounded out the top three in 19:08.3.
And on the ladies team side, Castle View would come away with the team title.
The Sabercats scored 56 points, placing all five scorers inside the top 18 and averaging 19:52.32 for 5K. A very strong day for the Castle View program.
Timnath finished runner-up with 104 points and a 20:15.63 average, while host Coronado took third with 126 points and a 20:31.16 average.
It was a great meet with a lot of strong performances and depth among the boys and girls races. The Sabercats left Colorado Springs with a sweep of the team titles.
Frontier Academy Sweeps 2A/3A Individual Titles
Frontier Academy also had a strong showing in the varsity 2A/3A races, claiming both individual titles for boys and girls.
Junior Camden Sutton captured the boys victory in 16:18.1, while sophomore Olivia Broce took the girls crown in 20:14.4.
