Back in September, rumblings began to be heard out of the ski town of Crested Butte. The little community with the big winter reputation was enjoying a little excitement in the fall as well. The buzz had nothing to do with the turning of the aspen. It had everything to do with a nifty little boys cross country team that was taking the western slope by storm.

Only there was one little problem. That little problem was another cross country team based in a different ski town a couple of counties over--Telluride.

The matchup was about intriguing as matchups get. Both teams boasted an individual who had individual state title aspirations--Ty Williams and Ian Boucher. Both schools were regularly beating larger schools at the invitationals on their schedule. In the name of these two schools, 2A boys cross country was rapidly coming of age.
