The PV--Alive and Well in Longmont, Colorado

If you missed Saturday's St. Vrain Valley School District meet at Longmont High School, it turns out you missed a lot.

Somebody juiced the poles.

Or something like that.

I'm still working on getting fully formatted results posted for the RE-1J meet, but there were some spectacular performances in this meet. Most notable of all was the boys' pole vault. Longmont's Steven Wacker (pronounced Wokker) went 15-7 for the win. But second and third weren't bad either. Longmont's Derek Wing went 14-6 for second, and Niwot's Dillon Manzanares went 14-0 for third. So, how would you like to be trying to qualify for state in the pole vault out of this region under the old system? Me neither.

Other results of note included a 5-6 by Nola Basey of Lyons in the high jump. That should just about punch Basey's 2A ticket to state, I should think.

Lorne Jenkins of Niwot had a wind-legal 22-02.5 in the long jump. We'll probably see better from Alex Mead as the season goes on, but his 11.12 and 22.27 in the 100 and 200 were very nice season-opening marks. Valarie Allman went 138-11 in the discus to get things rolling for her season.
