Colorado's outdoor track and field season is quickly approaching, but before we get there, let's take a look at some of the outstanding field event performances from 2025 so far.

Taylor Waters

At the Western Slope High School Open, Taylor Waters vaulted 16-4.5, achieving a personal record in the pole vault. The senior from Cherokee Trail High School placed 4th at the 2024 5A Colorado State Championship, capping off a fantastic season. Opening his season over 16 feet has set him up as the favorite going into the outdoor season. Waters' vault is also ranked 20th in the nation in the indoor pole vault.

Brooklyn Bailey

One of the few underclassmen in the field events top 10 is Brooklyn Bailey, representing Steadfast Track Academy. Bailey is a sophomore at Mountain Vista High School, possessing incredible speed. In the 100m, he was the top freshman in the state last season after clocking 10.94. As he begins 2025, he is emerging as a serious competitor in the Long Jump. The sophomore leapt to 21-10.5 at the Texas High School Indoor Championships in January, placing him Colorado's top 10 best jumps in the indoor season so far.

Arguably, the most dominant field event athlete in the state right now is Ayden Mills. The Cherokee Trail High School senior currently leads the state in the shot put (52-11) and weight throw (61-9). This seems to be just the beginning for Mills, as last season he didn't qualify for the state meet in the discus or shot put. He has also improved his personal records by over ten feet in the shot put and almost twenty feet in the weight throw, indicating that his potential for improvement is extremely high.
