Every year, track and field gets to deal with a few conflicts. First, it's spring break, Later, it's prom. Along the way are an assortment of choir and band concerts. And for a few unfortunate schools, graduation lands squarely on state meet weekend.
Of all the conflicts, however, none has its impact as concentrated as spring break. Either this weekend or next, or both, almost every school in the state is on one end or the other of spring break. For some schools, that's a cue to simply not schedule anything. For other schools, it means working with reduced rosters, but also giving opportunity for some younger athletes to run varsity meets due to slots opened by other athletes away on break.
