Today is Earth Day, but it may be coming-back-down-to-earth-day for those who were competing this weekend.
If you're a high school track and field athlete in Colorado, there is one thing you need to know about this past weekend. That one thing would be that it just got tougher to advance to state--quite a bit tougher, in fact.
Once all the results from this weekend go into the rankings, it will be apparent that the qualifying standards for several events and classifications for making the cutoff for the top 18 are already tougher that they were for getting to state last year. And there are still three full weeks of qualifying remaining. To cite an example near and dear to my own heart, the cutoff point for 3A girls 3200s advancing to state last year was 12:38.35.
