When you assemble as much talent on a 5K course as well assembled in Lyons on Saturday, some big things are bound to happen. And they did.
There may have been nothing bigger than Elise Cranny's domination of the 4A/5A girls event, but there were a few outcomes in the same ballpark. We'll start, however, with Cranny's run.
The 4A/5A girls race started out like a contest. Karlee Schwartzkopf, Isabelle Kennedy, Claire Green, Erin McLaughlin, and a few other 5A notables paced with Cranny at the front of the pack, giving the race every appearance of being closely contested. Shortly after the mile, however, Cranny made a break that would never be answered--by anyone. The remainder of the race was an exercise in determining how much space Cranny could put on the rest of the field.
