Inasmuch as the spirit of the sport is to run away from people, I suppose it's not terribly surprising that a couple schools around the region have elevated that spirit to the team level.
It's just that they made it look so easy. A tip of the hat to the Pine Creek girls and the Mountain Vista boys.

Heather Bates is a take-charge kind of racer, and the 5A Region 5 girls race was barely across the softball outfield where it started before Bates had built a commanding lead. Perhaps plagued by a stiff neck, Bates never even attempted to look back.
And, like a trio of Cooper Minis on assault, her Pine Creek enforcers teammates (Kroeker, Sered, and Sered) covered her back, making certain nobody had a chance to entertain the idea that the team outcome was even a tiny bit in doubt. And thus did Pine Creek cruise into the state me...
