Colorado High School Snowshoe State Championships Drawing Near

Two Cheyenne Mountain racers make their way through the deep powder early in last year's state race. Colorado Track XC file photo.

The snow is dumping on the State Championship course at Summit High School.  The 4th annual Colorado High School State Championships are gearing up to be one of the most competitive high school snowshoe races yet.  With runners from all over the state coming up to take on the challenge, you might be asking yourself, “How do I register?”  Here are some details:

  • The race takes place on 2/9/13 at 10:00 AM
  • The race starts and ends at Summit High School in Frisco, CO (16201 CO HWY 9 between Frisco and Breckenridge)
  • Registration includes a goody bag, Tech-T-Shirt, PowerBar snacks, post-race chili lunch, and door-prize entry
  • If you are an individual registering without a team, then register as a student through http://www.runningguru.com/EventInformation.asp?eID=4290
  • I have found that it is a lot easier for teams to register by emailing me names, genders, and T-Shirt sizes.  This can be done by emailing me at dillondash1637@yahoo.com
  • Individual student registration is $25, but a team of 5 or more can register for $17 per runner.  If your team is over ten runners, then your coach races for $12 (the cost of a shirt).
  • Teams are coed, and the top 10 boys and girls will receive awards (The “Colorado High School Snowshoe All-State Runners”)
  • The team championship trophy is coed.  The scoring goes off of the top boys and girls from each team scored together.  A perfect score would be as follows:
    1. 1 point for first place girl
    2. 1 point for first place boy
    3. 2 points for second place girl
    4. 2 points for second place boy
    5. 3 points for third place girl/boy

Total Score: 9 points

(Team championships can be all boys, all girls, or any mixture of scoring too)

  • Teams can be combined.  For instance: Thornbush High School and Tumbleweed High School and join teams together so that they can score as a team if they were short runners on both sides.
  • There will be awesome door prizes this year too!

We will have snowshoes to borrow for the race, and Crescent Moon Snowshoe Company (out of Boulder) will be bringing up snowshoes to demo, too.
