For the Thompson District and Greeley track programs, the annual City Challenge hosted by Greeley Central is a the perfect season-opener: plenty of quality in a small, low-key meet that gets the entire squad on the track together.
 
Many track seasons, like in so many places around the state, weather plays a big factor. So, combining the Saturday forecast with a bunch of hard-headed coaches who were eager to get a meet in, the 2013 version moved up to Day One on the CHSAA calendar.
 
Team titles went to Lovelanders, as Loveland won the girls’ side with 171 points and Mountain View won a good battle on the boys’ side with 159 points. Solid to very solid marks were posted by all of the nine schools in attendance.
