If you look east or south from La Junta's Tiger Stadium on the south end of La Junta, you get just a tiny glimpse of what lies beyond. In stark contrast to the tree-lined streets of La Junta is the vast, treeless expanse that few animals and even fewer people dare to call home. And so, being on the edge of nothingness as it is, Tiger Stadium makes an apt setting for a showdown.
La Junta was home to the Tri-Peaks League meet on Saturday. And, though a few Tri-Peaks notables stayed home rather than make the trip down Highway 50, the meet served nevertheless as a nice preview of many of the entries the TPL will be sending to state this weekend.
There was Ashley Snyder of Lamar and Alicia Lawrence of James Irwin, splitting the sprint titles between them. Snyder took the 100, but Lawrence evened the score later in the day in the 200. Next week, the stakes get higher ...
