Entries have now closed for the Colorado State Pentathlon meet tomorrow at Brighton High School on the northeast outskirts of Denver. Entries closed at 87 participants this year, which should help make for some very strong competition.
The boys events include 1500, 200, discus, high jump and long jump. Girls events include 800, 200, shot put, long jump, and high jump.
Several recent state champions are included in the field. A few of the most recognizable names in the boys field are Josh Sandin (Mountain View), Reid Gates (Cedaredge), and Chase Thurgood (Fort Collins). A few of the most recognizable names in the girls field are Rachael Lopez (Brighton), Taylor Buschy (Loveland), Heather Harrower (Fairview), Lindsey Kroboth (Thompson Valley), and Jamie Clawson (Highland). For whatever reason(s), girls were drawn to this event in larger numbers than the boys were.
One thing is for certain--there are surprises in store as we find out who handles five events in a compressed period of time with the greatest proficiency.
