For cross country runners in the Colorado Springs area Monument Valley Park is a seasonal staple. The Joe Davis Invitational is the first meet of the 2013 season to frequent the venue.
With fourteen full teams in attendance, the meet was reasonably sized. Powerhouse programs such as Coronado, Cheyenne Mountain, and Palmer Ridge were not running at full strength which shook up the results a little.
The varsity boys race, in terms of individuals, evolved very quickly into a battle between two Pueblo speedsters. Pueblo South’s Charlie Lucero closely tracked Centennial’s Michael Duran for nearly two miles. Duran put in a strong last mile to win by 8 seconds.
