Simply in terms of numbers, Region 2 should be the most competitive in all of 3A. Each 3A region qualifies five teams for state-level competition, so the largest region means more teams to go through to qualify. At 14 teams, Region 2 takes that prize for the largest 3A region.
All observations about region size aside, Region 2 on the boys side contains four of the top 10 teams in the most recent Coaches Poll, as well as two more teams receiving votes in that poll. The Region 2 girls occupy three of the spots in the Coaches Poll, again with two more teams receiving votes. Oh, and this might also be important: the Lamar boys and Salida girls own the top spots in 3A as far as the Coaches Poll is concerned.
