For the most part, the weather cooperated beautifully for this weekend's Colorado State Junior Olympic Championships. But, at the moment when Chyna Ries most needed a 2.0 or under wind, a thunderstorm a little to the north of Legacy Stadium was pushing air southward at a rate of 3.1 meters per second. So, Ries's mark of 21-4 won't go into the record books, but you have to believe that 21-foot barrier is in deep trouble.
Ries, of course, went on to win the 17-18 women long jump, but she was scarcely the only female to register a big long jump mark on the weekend. Jerayah Davis (Wyoming) logged a 19-6 (+3.5), and Maya Evans an 18-3.75 (NWI).
From the throwing rings, the biggest news was probably a PR mark of 157-10 for Josie Natrasevschi. Mariah Walker and Keely Parish were both over 140, but still better than 10% short of Natrasevschi.
