It's been a while since a team out of this region has won a state title, and longer still since a team out of this region has won a 4A state title, but it would be a mistake to underestimate the teams that call this region home.
Both track season and cross country season of the school year just completed suggest that Ponderosa and Golden are the teams to beat in the region.
Ponderosa falls in behind the lead of senior Phillip Reid. For that matter, the entire region falls in behind Reid's lead. Reid owns the top returning cross country, 1600, and 3200 times for the region. But, Reid may not be Ponderosa's greatest advantage in the region. The greater advantage just might be the four other sub-18 guys that the Mustangs return in Sean Wilcox, Luke Veltrie, Liam McCoy, and Nick Rodriguez.
