Rifle - As with most early bird meets, the Western Slope's affair here has seen its share of unpredictable weather and clean-off-the-cob web technical issues (like a timing system malfunction two years ago), but Friday's 21-team soiree started 2015's track season like a lamb's entrance to March -- cool (weather), calm (winds) and collected (technology).
But make no mistake there were some athletes who came in like lions. Battle Mountain's Izze Calabrese waited for the rest of the field to be out in the girl's pole vault to enter and easily clear 10 feet. She requested the bar be raised to 10-9.5, half an inch above her school record, but she was not able to clear that height. Calabrese went on to dominate the 300-hurdle field with a winning time of 48.18.
