2A Notes of Interest

We got to know Jennie Ann West in track season this spring, but it now appears the introduction continues in cross country season. Photo by Alan Versaw.

There is some early news of interest arising out of the 2A ranks!

Earlier this summer, I speculated just a little about the possibility of Jennie Ann West running cross country this fall after a nice track season in the spring. At the time, Pueblo West seemed like the most likely school for her to be competing at this fall, but it now appears Swallows Charter Academy will have their own cross country program this fall. That would make West a viable candidate to finish as a state medalist in the school's first cross country season.

Also, gleaning some meet registrations from an upcoming meet in Utah, it appears Dolores will potentially have complete boys and girls teams this fall. Dolores has three female entries and five male entries (four of them freshmen) for a meet in Monticello, Utah, next week.

Rangely, likewise, appears to have the numbers necessary to field complete scoring teams for both genders in 2A this fall, based on what they have entered for the Central (Grand Junction) meet on Saturday. The same appears to apply to Kiowa on the basis of what the Indians have entered in Friday's Cheyenne Mountain Stampede.

So, at least initially, things look bright for an enhanced field of teams in Colorado's 2A ranks.
