Scoring the 3A Boys Regions

Any ideas which 3A Boys region fared best at state? Photo by Alan Versaw.

Admit it, you've wondered about regional parity.

So, beginning with this piece and continuing through each gender and classification (3A through 5A only), we answer a few questions about regional (team) strength.

You can evaluate regional team strength a couple of different ways. One way would be to score the team places from the regional cross country fashion. Another would be to compare how the last-place team from each region finished relative to the teams from other regions. I've done both of those in the analysis below.

Team scoring by region is obvious. Less obvious is how the last-place team from each region fared relative to other regions. The number in parentheses at the end is the number of teams from other regions beaten by the last-place team (at state) of that region.

3A Region 1 Boys (Western Slope): 5-8-15-16-18 = 62 (2)

3A Region 2 Boys - (Southeastern Colorado): 1-3-6-7-14 = 31 (6)

3A Region 3 Boys - (Denver Metro): 4-9-12-17-20 = 62 (0)

3A Region 4 Boys - (Northeastern Colorado): 2-10-11-13-19 = 55 (1)

Thus analyzed, we officially declare 3A Region 2 to be the toughest, by far, of the 3A Boys regions for 2015.
