Colorado's outdoor track and field season is quickly approaching, but before we get there, let's take a look at some of the outstanding indoor distance performances to start 2025.
Aiden Le Roux
As the weekend approached, Aiden Le Roux was announced as Colorado's Gatorade Player of the Year in Cross Country following his stellar 2024 season. He carried this momentum into the Husky Classic, where he ran Colorado's top times in the mile and 5000m. Le Roux's 14:15.84 in the 5000m broke the indoor Colorado state record, making him the second fastest in all conditions. Parker Wolfe's 14:06.48 from the Texas Distance Festival in 2021 remains the only performance better than Le Roux's. The next day, he achieved a personal record in the mile of 4:13.10, capping off a successful weekend. The Cheyenne Mountain High School junior placed 4th in the 3200m and 17th in the 1600m at the 4A Colorado State Championships last season.
Another outstanding distance performance came from an Eagle Valley junior who is coming off a breakout cross country season. Dylan Blair ran 9:32.89 in the 3200m at the Great Southwest Indoor Classic, which is over 5,000 feet in elevation. He finished just seconds behind Corbin Coombs, a senior from New Mexico who has dominated nationally. Blair didn't qualify for the state meet in track last season, but beating his personal record in the 3200m in February could bode well for him this year.
Yishai Trowbridge
At the UCCTCA Invitational, Yishai Trowbridge threw down a 2:00.28 in the 800m and a 4:25.22 in the 1600m for two personal records. The Central Grand Junction senior didn't qualify for state last season in track, but these early season marks are nothing to scoff at. He currently sits at Colorado's number three in the 1600m and first in the 800m indoors. Trowbridge has shown a steady progression over the years that could potentially set him up for a fruitful senior season.
Cole Mazurana
Cole Mazura opened his season strong with a 4:22.65 in the 1600m, winning the Colorado Elite Track Classic #1. The Niwot senior didn't race for the Nike Cross Nationals championship team, but he remains a significant contender on the track. Last season, he participated in the 800m and 1600m at the 4A Colorado State Championships. The 800m may be his strongest event, as he finished 10th in Colorado last year, running a time of 1:54.
