State Snowshoe Set to Launch at CMC-Leadville Course

Cheyenne Mountain's James Jones would appear to be among the favorites for the boys title, but conditions won't resemble what we saw at state cross country in October. Photo by Alan Versaw.

For those who still want to show up and sign up on the day of the event, there is still room, but the field of preregistered athletes is now set for tomorrow's State High School Snowshoe Event. Slated to compete are the following:

Boys

Cheyenne Mountain - Tristan Barnes, David Coale, Michael Coale, Wesley Eick, Thomas Gannett, James Jones, Walker Rudolph

Vail Christian - Ethan Pence

Girls

Cheyenne Mountain - Joyce Jones, Brooke Kincaid

Colorado Academy - Lauren Fossel

Coronado - Chloe Cassens

Shining Mountain Waldorf - Emma Schaefer

Telluride - Soleil Gaylord

Also competing in the sprinting events (200, 400, and 800) is Summit's McKenna Ramsay.

Day of race registration is $25 at Coronado Hall, the campus dining hall. Registration opens at 7:45 AM.

This year's course is a groomed course, providing much more of a feel of speed than the powder bowl of the Summit County years of the event.

On a national level, USATF is taking over administration of the sport, and there is some hope for the sport gaining a place in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Results, an article, and hopefully a photo or two are targeted for Saturday evening.
