Once upon a time, the Arvada City Championships were largely contested as an intra-squad track meet at the old Arvada High School. As time has gone on, and every nook and cranny in every direction from the intersection of Ralston and Wadsworth has filled in with homes, the city eventually went from one high school to five, and thus the need to contest the City Championships at a neutral site with wind gauges and FAT at the ready should anybody pop a rankings worthy performance.

Long before lots of kids in Arvada call themselves a bulldog, a wildcat, an eagle, a mustang or a panther, they call themselves Apex Blazers on the CARA track circuit. If Arvadans don't cut their teeth in the sweltering heat of a 16-hour-long CARA meet, they do so playing soccer with the Arvada Edge or football with the Arvada Buffaloes. This sense of famili...
