Six former Colorado high school athletes will be competing in Thursday's events of the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon.
Slated to compete are Fort Collins High School graduates Sarah Stevens (now Arizona State) in the shot put and Katie Follett (now Washington) in the 1500 meters. Also slated to compete is Ellie Rudy (now Montana State) who pole vaulted for Palmer High School. On the men's side, Jason Schutz (formerly Pagosa Springs High School, now Colorado State) and Russ Winger (formerly Pine Creek High School, now competing unattached) will be competing in the discus throw. Finally, James Hatch, a Fairview graduate now running unattached, is on the start list for the men's 1500 meters. None of the six are favorites to advance to the Olympic Games, but each have logged the significant accomplishment of qualifying for the trials.
Several other athletes with Colorado connections, including Lopez Lomong, Steve Slattery, Jenny Barringer, Billy Nelson, Casey Malone, and Stephen Pifer are also slated to compete on Thursday.
