2016 Colorado State Fair Street Vault: Olympians and Mansons Impress

TOP MOMENTS OF THE MEET (2)



The afternoon session contained some of the best of Colorado's current prep pole vault talent as well as a number of alumni. The session featured only four women; two of which topped age divisions. Abigail Gray of Silver Creek edged Heidi Liles who competed in the previous session on misses for the 15-16 division title. The Classical Academy junior Erika Willis kept a clean sheet until her last three attempts breaking the five way tie at 3.65m (11-00). She claimed the top 17-18 spot and the title of top female ameatur of the day.

The session two men battled brilliantly down the stretch with seven vaulters making marks of 4.25m (14-00) or above. The meet performances were accented by the frequent use of costumes ranging from simple superhero shirts to gold body suits (see the photo gallery). Costumed in swim trunks and matching goggles, Regis Jesuit's resident decathlete Jason Lewis won the 17-18 division title with a vault of 4.4m (14-6). Donning a beard, a blue bandana, and aviator sunglasses for his second jump, Monarch's Max Manson (photo, above) dueled Kingwood, Texas, grad and Mines freshman Jake Pinkston for the session two title. Pinkston would prevail jumping 4.85m (16-00). Manson's 4.55m (15-00) effort placed him atop the 15-16 division making the Mansons two for two on the day.
