2016 Air Academy Kadet: Air Academy Takes D1 Titles; Vanguard, TCA Split D2 Crowns

TOP MOMENTS OF THE MEET (1)

With 150 meters to go, Tatum Miller was still leaning hard on the gas pedal.

Tatum Miller gets a W

She's been close, but before this meet Tatum Miller did not have a high school varsity meet individual title. Judging by the margin of victory, this won't be her last.

It was not far at all into the race before Miller had taken over. With every stride, and despite having less than the longest legs on the course, Miller kept hammering and extending her lead. Miller made a mockery of the hill that has caused a very large percentage of those who've attempted it to stop and walk. Knowing she had an insurmountable lead late in the race, she refused to let up.

Ultimately, she would come up just a whisker short of putting 25 seconds on second-place Hannah McReavy.

Air Academy teammate Maria Mettler watched on in admiration, yelling encouragement to her younger teammate. And perhaps a thought or two crossed Mettler's mind about how she can hold off Miller the next time around. It's no longer a given.
