With one mile to go, Dillon Powell was leading the pack battling it out for second.

For the longest time in Thursday's race, there was a very strong suggestion that Ethan and Dillon Powell would hang a 1-2 on the field. It didn't quite end up that way, thanks to some strong racing on the second half of the course by Pueblo South's Ben Highfill, but it was still only five seconds from reality. And a 1-3 is still a tough bell to answer.
Powell and Powell had good company behind them as well. Cal Banta claimed fifth. Luke Thurman and Kieron Brunner scored top ten finishers. Altogether, the Kadets beat the field. And the field knew it.
There came but a whimper from the vanquished. Pine Creek's 87 was the closest anyone got to Air Academy's 27.
Also noteworthy among the top ten finishers was Pine Creek freshman Noah Trauter in 6th at 18:06. Nobody shuns an 18:06 on this course.
