Evan Appel and Bobby Nicolls have been butting heads in track and cross country for a while. Now, however, they've taken the friendly rivalry to a road race in Salt Lake City. And what a show they put on.
As a sort of trade-off for the summer heat in Salt Lake City, the race starts very early in the morning (6 AM) and proceeds along an overall downhill course on asphalt streets. The race flyer advertises "Salt Lake City will be the Fastest City on Earth." When you look at the race times, they just might be right about that.
Running against a huge chunk of Utah's top high school and collegiate runners, Nicolls and Appel finished 1-2 in the 15 - 18 age division and 8th and 10th overall. Nicolls completed the course in 30:20.1 and Appel in 30:38.6.
