Some Important Notes About Today's Air Force High School Open

Tanner Norman will be among today's top-tier athletes in competition at the Cadet Field House.

In case you haven't seen already, the entry lists for the Air Force High School Open are massive. 161 boys entered in the 60 meter dash. 102 girls in the 60. More dauntingly, there are 117 boys and 65 girls entered in the mile run. Only the 60 meter dash and 60 meter hurdles will have finals. Note that the faster sections of other races will be the later sections.

Although the Air Force Academy has not yet released an updated schedule, I can confidently say these numbers exceed all expectations and the meet will almost certainly not be able to stay on the published schedule.

So, here are a few tips for you...

1. Unless you have a very long travel time to the meet, watch the MileSplit live stream of the meet to see how events are progressing for any events after the mile. That could save you a lot of time of waiting around later on. The link above takes you to a sign-up-or-sign-in page until the stream is live. We plan to go live at a little after 9 AM. Events start at 10 AM. All events will run on a rolling schedule.

2. Also understand that spectator entry into the Cadet Field House will be $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students until noon, at which time the entry fee goes up to $12.00 for adults and $9.00 for students on account of the Air Force-Wyoming basketball game in the same building. I don't know when, or if, that admission fee will go back down to 5 and 2, but it is a safe bet the track meet will outlast the basketball game. College basketball contests rarely last more than about two hours.

3. It should be pretty pleasant conditions for warming up outside today and athletes may want to consider that option once they have their wristbands required for competition in place. Winds could be a little elevated in the morning, but are supposed to calm down in the afternoon. There won't be much space to warm up inside the arena. Stay away from areas of high vehicle traffic, of course.

4. If we get a revised schedule from the Air Force Academy, we will periodically be including mention of it in today's live stream. If the Air Force Academy publishes an updated schedule, you can look for it here.
