2A Region 1

In what ranks as a bit of a surprise, the Wiggins girls will not be going to state--at least not as a team. In a region with only six complete teams, just two qualify for state. Nederland easily grabbed the first state qualifying slot with 1-3-4 score, and Shining Mountain Waldorf edged Wiggins for the second. Tara Richardson, who finished second, and Jayleen Erker, who finished sixth, will represent the Tigers at state, however.

For Nederland, it was once again the sisters Robinson laying down the big blow, finishing in 19:49 (Kelley) and 20:32 (Kat). Rebecca Hermann finished fourth overall in 20:42 to seal the Panthers' victory. And so, Nederland proceeds to state as a favorite to win the thing.

Wiggins had no such disappointment on the boys' side as they did the Nederland girls' finish one better. Wiggins went 1-2-4 led by Gilbert Tucker in 17:38 and Alex Dorr in 17:39. Nederland and Alexander Dawson nabbed the two remaining state berths out of the region.

2A Region 3

2A Region 3 has the distinction of being Colorado's smallest cross country region in numbers of competitors. It might be too much to say they enjoy that distinction. Still, someone has to be smallest...

Antonito won the girls team title, while second third and fourth places were each separated by a single point. Center sends its team to state ahead of Del Norte and Sargent, the only other complete teams in the region. The individual title went to Kelly Lamb of Creede in 20:54.

The boys had a few more teams--seven, to be precise. Center scored 16 and claimed the first two individual places to win the team title. Sargent and Centennial will also send teams to state. Joel Villagomez was the individual titleist in 18:44

4A Region 1

It is now down to one meet that stands between Joseph Manilafasha and an undefeated CHSAA season. Manilafasha (15:15) won by 32 seconds over his closest competition, Dart Schwaderer of Wheat Ridge.

Wheat Ridge had a fine day in its own right, however, as the boys ran away with the regional team title, finishing with only 46 points. Other teams to qualify for state were D'Evelyn, Conifer, Evergreen, and Mullen.

For the girls, it was yet another individual title for Bryn Haebe (19:29). And, while Evergreen placed three in the top eight, it was very much Mullen's day. The Mustangs won the team title with only 35 points and had all their scorers in by eleventh place. Following Mullen as state qualifiers were, in order: Golden, Evergreen, and Centaurus.

3A Region 4

It would appear that the siblings Roberts were on cruise control this weekend. That's not necessarily good news for the competition next weekend. Both Andrew and Melissa finished the Yuma course in third place and well off their typical times for the season.

But, if Lyons showed up for a measured workout, other teams, and other individuals, had more in mind. Amos Bowen clipped off a 16:24 to win and help his Brush teammates to the final state qualifying slot.

Jhenya Nahreini did much the same for Peak to Peak, winning in 19:40. The Pumas, however, fell one point short of the team title. Estes Park edged Peak to Peak 30 - 31 in the final team tally.

Teams qualifying for state were, in boys: Lyons 34, Erie 48, Eaton 71, University 78, and Brush 105. In girls, it was: Estes Park 30, Peak to Peak 31, Brush 47, Erie 84, University 104. University tied with Eaton for the final slot but advances on tie breaker.

3A Region 1

The Delta Speedway, aka Confluence Park, lived up to its long-established reputation. Times were fast--as usual--at the 3A regional meet here.

Fastest of all was Joseph DeMoor of Buena Vista who finished his circuit in 15:33. Jackson Walsh of Pagosa Springs was a distant second in 16:26.

It was Bayfield, however, who took away the team title with a 3-4-6-11. Other teams qualifying for state were Pagosa Springs with 50, Gunnison with 65, and Basalt with 73.

On the girls side, Chiara Del Piccolo of Basalt wrapped up her effort in 19:06, followed by Brandi Krieg of Grand Valley in 19:32. Two other girls, Johanna Reed of Hotchkiss and Hannah Cooling of Buena Vista, came in under 20:00.

Gunnison nipped Pagosa Springs 37 - 38 for the team title, followed by Buena Vista and Hotchkiss as the other two team qualifiers.
