
There may be no sight in 2A Girls more feared than a Paonia relay.
It doesn't take a long, hard look at 2A Girls to see Paonia.
There isn't anyone in the 2A ranks who has known any other state champion than Paonia for the entire time they've been in high school. Paonia hasn't just won; they've dominated. In that time, they've fended off challenges from Lyons, from Wray, from neighboring Cedaredge, and from every corner of the state.
And, it only seems that the more Eagles that graduate, the more that come and fill the pipeline at the other end.
All this to say Paonia looks like a big favorite for the 2A Girls state title once again this year. Get used to it. And if you aim to do something about it, there is only one time and place to do anything about it, anyway. That time and place would be Jeffco Stadium on the third weekend in May.
