2017 Runners Roost of FoCo: The Lambkins Sweep At Home

Small-School Round-Up

Austin Chavez is one of many talented field athletes coming out of Sterling this season.

Heritage Christian's boys distance made Saturday an exercise in pack running. The trio of Isaiah Bowsher, Seth Bruxvoort, and Keaton Case placed 19-20-22 in the 3200m pushing one another to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rankings in 1A. Later in the day the same trio ran to 14th, 15th and 17th in the 1600m this time with Case leading the charge. The three now rank 5th, 6th, 7th in the 1A 1600m.

Outside of 1A, Wiggins easily had the best showing from 2A. Maggie Allen's 12:15.78 in the 3200m meter ranks her third in the event. Thrower Jeneen Ibrahim placed third in the shot throwing 38-1 and fifth in the discus with a toss of 112-5.25. Both marks sit atop the 2A rankings.

The Wiggins boys also performed impressively. Shane Finegan flew past the field in the 200m in 23.02, the top rank in 2A. Connor Kaufman also claimed a top ranking with an 10:13 in the 3200m. Hurdler Tyler Hein placed seventh in the 300H with a 42.32 ranking him second in 2A. To top it all off, the Tiger 4x200m ran the two circuits in 1:35.4 for another second ranking.

Apart from Wiggins, Katie Kurz of Dayspring Christian high jumped 5-2, just two inches off the top 2A performance.

In 3A, the Sterling boys put on a show on the field aspect of the sport. Sterling put three boys in top five in high jump, three in the top six of pole vault, and two in the top five in triple jump. The question for Sterling as a team is if they find some depth on the track to compliment the unprecedented depth in the field.

The Eaton girls continue their tradition of quality relays with a comeback win in the 4x800m and a second place finish in the SMR behind Mountain View. The Lady Reds now rank second in the 4x800m and third in the SMR divisionally.

Individually, Sterling's Kylie Chavez jumped to rankings in the high, long, and triple. Her 35-6.5 triple jump is the best in 3A thus far.

Defending 3200m state champ Lily Tomasula-Martin posted the fastest 3A 3200m of the season running an 11:31.20.
