2017 Central Warrior: Standing Alone On Saturday

Battle Mountain and Glenwood Capture Team Titles

The defending cross country state champions Battle Mountain stuck to the script and leaned heavily on distance to take the meet title. Sprinter Sabrina Sutter took second in the 100m and first in the 200m, and Grace Johnson took second in the 800m, the rest of the Husky's points on from the track were a group effort.

Battle Mountain placed four sprinters in the top five (the fourth did not count toward the team score) of the 400m. Naomi Harding crossed the line first in 60.76. The Huskies went 1-4-5 in the 1600m. Harding won again in 5:13.73, and Johnson took fourth with 5:22.15. And for the final performance for Battle Mountain, the Huskies went 1-2-7 in the 3200m led by Lizzy Harding at 11:20.61. Elizabeth Constien would finish less a second later.

The Huskies scored a total of 101 points for the win with just four points coming from jumps.

In contrast the Glenwood Springs boys posted points in every event discipline, except for throws, to score 150.5 in a runaway victory. The Demons won the 4x200m in 1:32.10. Junior Benny Smith took home first in the 3200m in 10:08.08. Bryce Risner did the same in high jump, leaping 6-2.

Glenwood Springs had multiple scorers in nine events. The highlight of these was the 300H where Larry Flores ran to victory in 40.95, leading a 1-2-4-6 charge.
