Girls 800 Earns Top Race Of The Day Honors
The deepest race of Friday came by way of the girls' middle distance crew. Durango's Emma Fitzgerald pulled away down the homestretch from a pack that saw nine finishers under 2:30. Fitzgerald's time of 2:19.17 was a four-second personal best and puts her in the pack for 4A girls medal potential next week.
The small-school performance of the day came in this race as well as Telluride had four girls finish sixth through ninth all under 2:30. Soleil Gaylord, who won the 3200 on Thursday, led the crew in 2:23.10, but Maya Ordonez (2:26.86), Esme Fahnestock (2:29.06) and Sydney Evans (2:29.45) were there, too.
