Lilly Lavier moves up to the role of seasoned veteran this fall for Alamosa cross country.


It's hard to dredge up a time from memory twhen Alamosa cross country--boys or girls--wasn't competitive. It's unlikely this year will be joining that short list.

We certainly could talk about the boys here, but we're not. This article is about the girls.

Alamosa's girls finished sixth at last year's state meet. As recent history goes for this team, that's not an especially high finish. There have been two state titles in the last eight years.

But, honestly, last year was something of a rebuilding year for the Mean Moose girls. All five scoring members of last year's state team are back this year. 

Tara Sowards and Brittany Lopez comprise the senior core of leadership for this year's team. Both have three years of state meet experience and a lot of Mean Moose cross country success under their belt.
