2017 Dave Sanders: Johnson, Fine, Mercer, and Chamberlin Stand Their Ground

Division 2 Varsity Boys Race: David Fine Controls the Outcome

Elizabeth's David Fine is no stranger to the victory circle. He added another one on Friday in claiming the Division 2 race.

Fine, training through this competition, built a slight lead up the early hills before hitting the lake loop.

While on the lake loop he maintained a slim advantage over the likes of Drew Seidel from Wheat Ridge, Lucas Jordan from D'Evelyn and Holy Family's Kyle McCabe.

Coming off the lake, down the uneven dirt descent, and along the sidewalk towards the grassy finish, Fine appeared to be running comfortably and in control.  And though his margin of victory ended up a scant two seconds, 16:06-16:08, it was mostly due to the furious sprint-in by Lucas Jordan.

Jordan, who had overcome Seidel in the final 100 meters, put four seconds of real estate between the two of them. Ten seconds behind Seidel was McCabe. Eagle Valley's Aiden Branch filled out the top five.

In the team standings, Eagle Valley was 11 points clear of D'Evelyn, 85-96. Holy Family was again third, just as in the girl's race.
