Anna Hall's Dazzling Weekend

We've known for a while that Anna Hall was trouble in the high jump. Although she's known far and wide as a multis athletes, it's also pretty well known that high jump is her best event.

Hall went 5-10 Friday night to slam an extra exclamation point or two on her high jump status. It also tied her for the #2 spot in the nation on the season.

And, her 8.83 in the 60 hurdles prelims shoved her into PR territory for that event. She backed it up with a 8.90 in semis, but sat out finals. Both her prelims and semis marks put her ahead of her previous best for the event. That's a good indicator the event is trending upward for Hall.

All of that comes as very good news for someone with a hopeful eye on winning the pentathlon at New Balance Nationals Indoor next month.

But, maybe Hall's most surprising accomplishment of the whole weekend was winning the 800 meters. The 800 meters is a pentathlon event. And, Hall does well in the 800 in pentathlon competition.

As an open event, however, the 800 titles are pretty much exclusively reserved for 800 meter specialists. Try telling that to Anna Hall.

Coming off the last turn, Abby Scott appeared to have timed her move correctly and looked to have the race in hand. A furious charge down the final straight, however, sent the win in Hall's direction.

There's good reason Hall walked away with field event athlete of the meet honors, but it's also entirely possible she left happier with her track events than her field event. Life is funny that way sometimes.
