The final edition of the Mines High School Indoor series didn't go silently into the night despite being sandwiched between two big weekends for Colorado athletes.
Colorado preps took one last shot indoors at the Mines High School Indoor Series meet No. 6 Wednesday night. And while the rare Wednesday meet came between two busy weekends for Colorado athletes, Mines still drew some solid competitors for its final meet of the series.
Reece Davidson definitely made a statement Wednesday night. The Faith Academy senior dominated the shot with a staggering throw of 55-05 - that's the top mark in Colorado. The mark beat his previous best by nearly three-feet, and its his fifth time over 50-feet this season. His results are evidence that he's made huge gains over the past year, considering that he never went over 49-8 until this season.
Along with Davidson's big night, a few other performances stood out.
Liz Hogan endured those tight turns for seven laps to win the 3,000 in 10:50, while Maya Evans led freshman Amarachi Onuoha under eight-seconds in the 60. Evans won the event in 7.69, just ahead of Onuoha's 7.70. Of additional note -- that was nearly a half-second PR for Onuoha. Evans also won the long jump in 19-02.75. Tyler Martindale cruised away for victory in the 60, winning the event in 7.18.
The boys 400 saw three go under 54 seconds. Elijah Williams, Emrick Wells, and Morgan Gaffin cruised at dizzying speeds to go 1-2-3. Williams won in 53.63, while Wells and Gaffin went 53.88 and 53.92.
