Relays See Improvement
As is expected at this time of the year - as rosters are getting worked out, hand-offs improved and individual performances inching towards peak - relay times are starting to make dramatic improvements.
Right from the get-go 0.15 seconds separated the first three finishers in the girls SMR. Montrose holding off fast closing Hotchkiss and Montezuma-Cortez - 1:53.28, 1:53.39, 1:53.43. Hotchkiss' performance sits them at the top of the 2A leaderboard.
Immediately following, the 2A rankings saw another improvement as the Paonia Lady Eagles put a stranglehold on the 4x800 by dropping their leading time another 14 seconds to 10:16.22.
Coal Ridge girls are tuning up nicely heading into May by turning in top 5 3A marks in the 4x100 (51.39) and 4x200 (1:48.55) relays. Montrose girls improved their ranking in 4A 4x200 with a winning time of 1:46.63.
Coal Ridge boys also were in full-on relay mode, winning the two short relays with the foursome of Moises Contreras, Jacx Power, Brandon Herrera and Ezequiel Contreras (44.19 & 1:39.39).
2A continued to rule the 4x800 with the Paonia boys making the win a double in 8:33.91 and Crested Butte following in 8:47.81.
The Lady Indians took advantage of the home track and ran away with the team title with 136.33 points. Glenwood's depth helped them on the boys side with 133.
