2018 Pueblo Twilight: More Than A Few Great Marks

Small-School Girls

Montezuma-Cortez's Aryelle Wright continues to impress. By taking her show to Pueblo, Wright was able to expand the circle of those duly impressed. Wright finished second in the 100 at 12.83, first in the 200 at 25.69, and sixth in the 400 at 59.06. Alamosa's Lilly Lavier and Allyssa Romero were both also under 26 seconds, all wind legal, in the 200.

The Classical Academy and Alamosa staged an epic 4x400 battle under the lights. After spotting the Mean Moose a lead on leg one, the Titans closed up on legs two and three, then took the win with a monster last 80 meters from Chantae Steele. The Titans' 3:59.92 is the first sub-4 time of the season for 3A. A decade ago, 3A had never had a sub-4 400, but that's been changing in the last few years.

Earlier in the day, Alamosa's Lilly Lavier and TCA's McKenzie Elliott went 1-2 in the 800 at 2:15.90 and 2:18.00.

Frontier Academy's Hannah Ellis very nearly stole the 3200 title, but eventually settled for second in a school-record-and-3A-leading time of 11:05.63. Is it possible we'll see an honest-to-goodness race in the 3A Girls 3200 in two weeks? That might be worth thinking about.

Alamosa's Mary Streeter took the top seed into the 100 hurdles and left with the top time of 16.65. Rye's Kylie Baudino raised more than a few 2A eyebrows with a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles and a time of 49.52.

Maddy Williams of Lamar got 5-2 in the high jump for second place. Morgan Short went long in the long jump, taking the event title at 16-10. TCA's sisters Willis went 1-2 in the pole vault. And, Alamosa's Amaya Atencio had a winning effort of 38-6.5 in the shot put.
