Gavin Sawchuk is striding upwards in the latest Colorado Rankings.
We had three high quality meets over the past week, and for starters we've got to mention two performances that don't show up in Colorado rankings since they were run out of state.
Anna Hall, who is primarily known for being good at everything, just dropped a 2:11.81 800 at the Great Southwest Classic. Not only is that four seconds faster than her outdoor personal best, but that's the No. 10 time in the country.
(Editor's Note: If we're counting times run all over the country, Hall's 2:11 is No. 2 for a Colorado girl behind Fairview's Marlena Preigh, who ran 2:10.89 two weeks ago against collegians at the UW Invitational.)
So, if we're keeping count... That makes five Top 26 rankings for Hall. Five. (And four top-11 marks). The Valor Christian senior is No. 3 in the long jump, No. 5 in the high jump, No. 11 in the 60 hurdles, and No. 26 in the shot put.
On the boy's side it's clear that Cruz Culpepper really enjoys the mile. Culpepper made a last-second swap in meets and headed to Iowa State to go toe to toe with collegians in the mile. The Niwot junior likely made the men in his heat a little nervous, as he joined the Sub 4:10 Club, running 4:09.97. The time is currently No. 5 in the country and No. 1 among juniors.
Additional performances worth noting that don't show up in Colorado Rankings for the same reason as mentioned above:
Mia Manson is clearly starting to find her stride in the pole vault. The Monarch junior won the event at Great Southwest in a season best of 12-0. And that's just half of her big week - she added a half inch to her already stellar long jump PR, going 19-3 at Mines to remain No. 2 in Colorado, but move up to the No. 13 spot nationally.
Zion "Flash" Gordon is officially the fastest 60 Colorado runner, so far, as he ran 6.85. Previously he shared a 6.87 with Cameron Harris and Luc Andrada. And Flash Gordon wasn't done yet - he won the 60 hurdles in 7.86, which is the No. 4 time in the country.
Back in Colorado...
Arria Minor ran her fastest 200 in Colorado of the 2019 indoor season. The Denver East senior put on a sprint clinic in Gunnison at the Western State HS Indoor Open, running 23.78 in the 200.
Quietly moving up on Colorado's sprint court is Valor Christian freshman Gavin Sawchuk, who went 6.89 in Gunnison for the No. 4 time in Colorado this season. And proving his consistency, he went 6.94 in the prelims.
And new to the top of the rankings this week is Colin Morrison, who won the high jump in 6-4 at the Western State HS Indoor Open.
