Jack Sheesley was the runaway winner in the 110 hurdles.
On the boy's side of the competition we caught our first glimpse of the 2019 Fort Collins squad, and the boys in purple were impressive.
Among the many great races of the day was the boy's 100. Nearly a tenth of a second separated first from fifth. Claiming the win was Rangeview's Rashid Seidu-Aroza, who went 11.38 to beat Brad Roberts and Wyatt Ertle. Roberts and Ertle were both clocked at 11.40.
In the 200 there was no keeping pace with Elijah Williams. The Gateway senior ran away with a 22.34 victory.
Williams was denied the double, however, as met his match in the 400. Nicholas Nuhfer ran a state-leading 50.71 in the 400 to beat Williams, who finished second in 51.55.
The 800 was a three-way battle between Troy Bowen, Christian Sapakoff, and Marco Murillo. Just over one second separated first from third, was Bowen picked up win No. 1 of the season, running 2:03.96. Sapakoff finished second in 2:04.88, just ahead of Murrilo's 2:04.99.
The wind created additional challenges for anyone running down the backstretch more than once, proving that the longer the race the tougher the conditions.
Regardless of the wind, Yonas Mogos made front-running look easy. The Gateway junior set a hot pace and was able to ease away from Grahm Tuohy-Gaydos, Cole Nash, and Andre Stablein. Mogos took the W in 4:35. Tuohy-Gaydos ran 4:43, while Nash and Stablein both ran 4:47.
Tuohy-Gaydos endured the challenging double of the 1,600 and the 3,200, proving to be more warmed up and wind-ready for the deuce. The Green Mountain sophomore took the race down to the wire, beating James Gregory 10:04 to 10:06.
In the 110 hurdles there wasn't anyone who could keep pace with Jack Sheesley. Sheesley ran 15.30 for the win, just ahead of Jacob Doering's 15.53.
Like Williams, Sheesley was denied the double, however, as Nate Hanson took the 300 hurdles in 41.35 to Sheesley's 41.88.
Zace Buckhold was the lone high jumper over the six-foot barrier, going 6-0 for the win. Noah Yancey was a close-second, two-inches down in 5-10.
Lutheran's Noah Kelly made no contest of the pole vault, clearing 14-0, and the field with ease.
The discus was a more closer affair, with three going over 130 feet. Taking the win Saturday was Pomona's Adam Karas, who went 137-3.
In the team competition Fort Collins was the clear victory, tallying 132 points. Ralston Valley finished second with 78.5, while Lutheran took third with 62 points.
